14,119ha make up the Aigüestortes and Lake Sant Maurici National Park, located between the Pallars Sobirà and Alta Ribagorça areas. The remaining 26,733ha belong to the so-called peripheral protection zone, a piece of land surrounding the park also belonging to the Pyrenean areas of Pallars Jussà and Val d'Aran. The National Park offers a magnificent example of Pyrenean high-mountain features.
